Badge Reels Are A Convenient Alternative To Lanyards

Badge reels are a common sight in the business world today. Many people rely on them to hold I.D. badges, key cards, keys and other small items. They’re not fancy, but they do a simple task well.

Badge reels, of course, are nothing new. They’ve been a staple of many workplaces for many years. Security guards and maintenance workers with badge reels full of keys have long been a common sight in just about any kind of workplace you care to name.

But as many organizations have raised workplace security requirements, many have started requiring employees, students and sometimes even visitors to carry I.D. badges at all times. This has led to a surge in the number of badge reels in use; they are among the most convenient ways to carry I.D. cards.

Indeed, it is I.D. badges that give badge reels their name. With the proper attachment, I.D. holders clip to the badge reels. The reels then clip to a pocket or belt loop, keeping the I.D. visible, and leaving the hands free for tasks.

There are several ways to carry I.D. badges, but for many people, badge reels are the most convenient solution possible. Badge holders that clip to clothing can easily be lost. Those that pin in place offer a secure hold, but damage clothing. Lanyards are nearly as convenient as badge reels, but some people don’t like the feeling of something around their neck all day. Others don’t want to wear lanyards because they work around potentially dangerous machinery.

Badge reels offer a secure, convenient alternative. They hold I.D. badges and key cards at an easily accessible, readily visible level, yet also keep them out of the way when not needed. Like lanyards, they reduce the likelihood that an I.D. badge will be lost. And they don’t damage clothing.

Another reason many people prefer badge reels to lanyards is that badge reels don’t dangle. That’s a significant consideration for people who might need to bend over machinery, or who perform patient care at a hospital. Badge reels hold the required I.D. or other items close to the user’s body, out of the way.

Depending on their intended use, badge reels can be ordered in either light-duty or heavy-duty styles. The light-duty products generally will be made of plastic, while the heavy-duty reels will be made of metal and will have a stronger retractable line. The heavy-duty badge reels will hold heavier items and are generally more durable in hard-use environments.

Badge reels in either style can be made in round or square shapes, depending on customer preference. Plastic badge reels can be made in custom shapes as well.

It is possible to order badge reels with custom printed logos or messages on their cases, giving them a secondary promotional function. Printing can be done either single-color or full-color to accurately reproduce even the most complex corporate symbol or logo.

For maximum flexibility, badge reels can be used in conjunction with lanyards. Clip badge reels to the bottom of lanyards and you’ve got longer reach than you would have with either device separately. As an added bonus, you can print one marketing message on the lanyards and a second on the badge reels.
